So! Did you guess it? I did leave plenty of hints, from the fox changing shapes inside the portal, to the feathery cover page, to this old filler you've probably forgotten : )

When I was a kid, I had a phase where I drew nothing but birds all day long. It wasn't so much that I was interested in the birds themselves, I was just fascinating how my mind struggled to proportion them like humans! Without a reference I still have a hard time getting their features right. When you stop to look at the way birds are built, they seem so... alien.
