Fainting Spells
: Gate, page 10. This is why I love the sea. So many pretty things
swimming under the surface... and scary ones as well.

I can't believe it took me all night just to draw this.
*brain goes to sleep*
Oh. Have you looked at the download section yet?
(edit) A few hours of sleep later, I can finally
start to think coherently enough to talk about the picture. It was
a real pain in the butt! I worked on it for a full 12 hours and
still wasn't happy with the result but came to the conclusion that
this was as good as it would get : P Here's why it took so long:
- First I drew it in inverted colors (why do I insist on doing that?)
- I used some pre-mixed liquid watercolors for the background and
it came out awful and almost ruined the sketch
- Fixed it with watercolor pencils and saved the sketch by "inking"
it - except not really ;o) I didn't have any ink so I had to go
over it with a regular pencil but I pressed real hard : P
- Then the scanner was being a doodiehead and made everything so
blurry I wanted to scream
- Ended up having to cut the picture up in small pieces and scan
separately
- It was impossible to piece back together in photoshop because
the watercolors had caused the paper to warp so none of the pieces
came out square
- Had to mask this heavily with the clone brush (-_-);
- Once I inverted the colors, I realized it looked like shit
- Had to remove the background color completely (it was spotted
blue)
- Messed around with additional colors for hours until it became
this kind of rainbow
And that was just for the middle panel. It *was* going to be a 3
frame page, but there was just no way I could spend that much time
on every frame. In the end I decided to go with chibi scribblings.
But I couldn't find a way to fit everything on the page without
making it look to crowded, so some of it will be carried onto the
next page, where the mystery of the brushing thingy *dum dum dummmmmm*
will be elucidated!
