Fainting Spells
: Vows, page 2. Introducing Aude's bridesmaids!

(Bonne St-Jean-Baptiste à mes lecteurs québécois!)
I wasn't satisfied with the strip, so I chose to work on it some
more. As you can see, it took me a really long time to color this.
I first went over the original sketch with colored pencils, but
those never come out well once scanned. I ended up redrawing everything
in Illustrator, so what you see is a mix of pencil and vector. Until
I get a graphic tablet, I'm afraid it's always going to take me
an extra day to color my sketches, so please be patient. I work
on this thing everyday, whether I post my progress or not.
If you like this style, I also used it to color a picture
of Eve that you can find on my deviantArt
site. The lineart was from Applegeeks.
Now, let's talk about backgrounds. I've read that not drawing a
background in every cell was considered "cheap", just
like avoiding to draw complicated things like hands, feet or ears.
As you can see, I omitted the background completely in the black
& white version of this sketch. This wasn't pure laziness,
I swear! Originally, the characters were standing in front of a
bed cluttered with clothes and purses - because that really is what
brides and bridesmaids change in front of - but it was visually
distracting, so I took it out.
A lot of times, I tend to leave out elements that don't necessarily
add to the story. The only reason I drew a (somewhat) detailed
kitchen in chapter 1 was to point out the forgotten picnic basket.
There is also the fact that I'm not interested in drawing any type
of architecture. I like to draw organic stuff, like nature and people.
Curves and messy lines are lively, in my opinion. I'll never be
lazy when a scene calls for a nice landscape, but I wouldn't like
to draw apartment buildings and microwaves ovens. To me they are
just dead things, and it depresses me to look at them. As the story
progresses, it will get more imaginative, and I will be able to
go all out.

I was hoping I would have time to color today's strip,
but I have a lot to do in the morning so I'll have to call this
an early day. I would really like to paint this when I get a chance.
You know, with... paint. Alright that's it, I'm going to bed. I'm
having a hard time forming sentences.
